About enduro events in New Zealand

Enduro riding puts the emphasis on getting through difficult terrain rather than lap speed. New Zealand events range from cross-country style laps on farm and forestry land to hard enduro courses built around rock, roots, creek beds, steep clay climbs and man-made obstacles, often with a set time limit and checkpoints along the way.

Most organisers offer more than one route or class so the course can suit trail riders stepping up as well as experienced competitors, and some run a short course for juniors. Formats vary: some events are scored on laps completed within a time, others on special tests, and some are simply a hard day out with a cut-off.

Bring a bike set up for low-speed technical riding, strong tyres and tubes, a tow strap, tools and spares, plenty of water and food, and gear you can work in all day. Entry prices, classes, machine and licence requirements and course cut-offs are set by each organiser, so check the listing and their own page before entering.
